Luxury SUVs
Sir--I was disappointed to read the article (January 10) by Amanda Spratt and David Moore, "Price no bar to luxury sales", referring to the growing number of luxury SUVs being sold in Christchurch.
Some mention should have been made that anybody purchasing one of these vehicles is putting lives at risk owing to high rollover ratings and agressiveness to other road users.
Contrary to what was said, electronic control systems do not compensate for high centres of gravity. These vehicles will roll just like lesser models.
Secondly, anybody purchasing one of these vehicles will make themselves enemy number one of the environmental movement. Some of us have even taken to the sport of SUV tagging. We decorate their gas guzzlers with stickers reading "I'm changing the climate" or "I'm polluting your air", in the hope of shaming them into more appropriate transport choices
